Our client has a requirement for a Wireline Tractor Mechanical Technician – Sonde Maintenance to work onshore in The UAE

Purpose of the role

Maintain, repair, assemble and certify the mechanical assemblies of wireline tractor sondes so that tool strings are dispatched fit for purpose, on time, and with full traceability. The role directly supports conveyance reliability in horizontal and highly deviated wells, where tractor failure translates into rig-time loss and NPT.

Key responsibilities

Maintenance and repair

  • Execute scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on tractor sondes strictly to the applicable maintenance manuals, technical instructions and safety bulletins.
  • Disassemble, inspect, clean, reassemble and function-test mechanical modules: drive sections, arm and wheel assemblies, gearboxes, hydraulic pumps and motors, pressure compensation systems, shafts, bearings and sealing systems.
  • Replace life-limited and consumable components against running hours, cycle counts and inspection findings.
  • Carry out pressure testing, torque verification, dimensional inspection and leak checks; coordinate with electronics technicians for combined electro-mechanical functional testing.
  • Perform surface redress and troubleshooting at wellsite when operational support is required.

Reliability and records

  • Record all maintenance activity, tool history, part serial numbers and test results in the maintenance management system with no gaps in traceability.
  • Support failure investigations: preserve evidence, complete failure reports and contribute to root cause analysis with reliability engineering.
  • Flag repeat failure modes and recommend preventive action.

Materials

  • Verify part numbers against BOM before fitment; raise spares requisitions and support cycle counts.
  • Manage workshop inventory of tractor-specific spares to avoid dispatch delays.

QHSE

  • Comply with all site QHSE standards, including risk assessment, job safety analysis, lock-out/tag-out, manual handling and lifting operations, and control of hazardous substances.
  • Maintain workshop housekeeping and 5S discipline; stop work on any unsafe condition.

Team

  • Coach junior technicians and trainees on maintenance procedures and tool handling.
  • Participate in competency assessments and close identified development gaps.

Essential

  • Diploma or higher diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent recognised trade qualification.
  • Minimum 3 years hands-on maintenance of downhole or precision hydro-mechanical equipment in oilfield services.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and work from mechanical drawings, hydraulic schematics and bills of material.
  • Competent use of torque equipment, pressure test rigs and dimensional inspection tools.
  • Working English, spoken and written; computer literate with maintenance/ERP systems.

Preferred

  • Direct experience maintaining wireline tractors (MaxTRAC, TuffTRAC or equivalent OEM systems).
  • Basic electrical and electronics awareness sufficient for combined tool testing.
  • Valid UAE driving licence.
  • H2S, defensive driving, and offshore survival certification where the assignment requires site attendance.
