Ultra HTHP Onsite Advisor – Brief Job Description

Position: Ultra HTHP Onsite Drilling & Wells Advisor

Role Purpose
Provide onsite technical advisory, coaching, and capability-building support to the rig team, drilling supervision, and service company personnel during the execution of an Ultra High Pressure High Temperature (uHTHP) well. The advisor does not replace the Operator’s drilling supervisor or company representative but serves as a subject matter expert to promote safe execution, well integrity, and adherence to industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite technical guidance on Ultra HTHP drilling, completion, cementing, well integrity, and barrier management practices.
  • Advise rig and service company personnel on HTHP-specific operational risks, limitations, and mitigation measures.
  • Support execution teams in understanding the technical basis of well programs, procedures, and contingency plans.
  • Deliver informal and formal onsite coaching sessions, technical briefings, and knowledge-transfer workshops.
  • Participate in pre-job meetings, risk assessments, DWOPs, and operational reviews.
  • Observe critical operations and provide recommendations to improve operational performance and risk management.
  • Assist in identifying lessons learned and opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Act as a liaison between onsite personnel and office-based engineering teams when specialized technical input is required.
  • Promote industry best practices related to well control, well integrity, barrier management, HTHP cementing, drilling fluids, and tubular design.
  • Support competency development of operator, contractor, and service company personnel involved in Ultra HTHP operations.

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • 15+ years of drilling and well construction experience.
  • Significant experience on HPHT/HTHP wells, including deep, sour, depleted, narrow-margin, or high-risk environments
  • IWCF/IADC Well Control Certification (Supervisor Level)
  • BOSIET certifications
  • Extensive experience in HPHT/HTHP well construction and well integrity.
  • Previous involvement in complex deep, HPHT, or Ultra HTHP drilling and completion projects.
  • Strong knowledge of well barriers, casing design, cementing, drilling fluids, well control, and completion operations.
  • Experience providing training, mentoring, or technical coaching to drilling and well construction teams.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
