Upstream The Senior Geologist is responsible for providing specialist geological interpretation, formation evaluation, and technical support throughout well operations in deepwater environments. The role supports safe and effective drilling operations by interpreting geological data, evaluating hydrocarbon indicators, identifying potential drilling hazards, and delivering comprehensive geological reporting to the Company.
The successful candidate will work exclusively for the Company for the duration of the assigned work and provide technical expertise throughout the operational and post-operational phases of the project.
Key Responsibilities
1. Geological Interpretation and Formation Evaluation
- Provide geological interpretation services throughout the well operations.
- Prepare and interpret lithological descriptions, formation tops, and geological markers.
- Evaluate hydrocarbon shows and provide reservoir characterisation observations.
- Analyse drill cuttings, including cuttings characterisation and fluorescence analysis.
- Interpret gas data and identify potential hydrocarbon-bearing formations.
- Correlate geological data against offset wells when requested.
- Identify and report potential drilling hazards, including overpressure indicators, lost circulation zones, unstable formations, and shallow gas indicators.
2. Technical Support and Operational Consultation
- Provide technical advice and specialist geological support to the Company as required.
- Remain available for technical consultation on a 24-hour, seven-day basis throughout the duration of the work.
- Attend meetings and provide remote technical support via conference calls or other agreed communication methods, as requested by the Company.
- Troubleshoot geological and operational problems relating to the assigned work.
- Support operational decision-making by providing timely, accurate, and relevant geological interpretations.
3. Geological Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare and submit a comprehensive final geological report within five (5) working days of completion of well operations.
- Ensure the final report includes, as a minimum:

- Well synopsis.
- Formation evaluation summary.
- Lithological summary.
- Reservoir observations.
- Hydrocarbon show evaluation.
- Gas interpretation.
- Formation tops.
- Lessons learned.
- Prepare and deliver the CRB as further detailed in the applicable contract exhibit.
- Ensure all technical documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted within the required timeframes.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant, direct experience in geological services related to the assigned scope of work, including experience in deepwater environments.
- Thorough understanding of the relevant geological products, services, and technical disciplines for which the individual is responsible.
- Demonstrated ability to perform the required technical duties independently and effectively.
- Proven track record in troubleshooting geological and work-related technical problems.
- Strong knowledge of geological interpretation, formation evaluation, hydrocarbon show analysis, gas interpretation, and drilling hazard identification.
- Ability to prepare clear, comprehensive, and technically accurate geological reports.
