Job Overview:

We are seeking experienced Drilling Engineers to join our clients team on a contract basis for an exciting project located in Iraq. The successful candidate will provide in-depth engineering analysis, technical expertise, and innovative solutions for drilling operations. This role focuses on well trajectory, casing design, drilling BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly) design, optimized drilling parameters, hydraulic runs, torque and drag management, and rig sizing. The candidate will also play a key role in addressing downhole challenges, such as mobile formations, shale intervals, lost circulation zones, and bearing formation areas, ensuring safe and efficient well construction.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Well Planning & Design: Develop and optimize well plans, including well trajectory, casing design, and BHA design to ensure the efficient and safe drilling of wells.
  • Engineering Analysis: Conduct thorough analysis of drilling parameters, hydraulic runs, torque and drag, and rig sizing, providing recommendations to improve operational efficiency.
  • Downhole Challenges: Identify and address downhole challenges, including mobile formations, shale intervals, lost circulation zones, and bearing formation areas, to minimize risks and optimize performance.
  • Feasibility Studies: Conduct feasibility studies to evaluate the possibility of drilling two subsurface targets from the same pad, providing insights on how to execute the plan effectively.
  • Technical Solutions: Implement advanced tools and methodologies to provide solutions to complex drilling issues.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other engineering teams, drilling contractors, and operators to ensure that drilling operations align with safety standards and project goals.
  • Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor drilling operations and provide technical support during drilling activities. Report key performance indicators and recommendations for improvements.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in drilling engineering, with substantial experience in challenging environments such as mobile formations, shale intervals, and lost circulation zones.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in drilling software and modeling tools, with experience in well planning and optimization.
  • Field Experience: Strong field-based experience with a deep understanding of onshore drilling operations.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to provide innovative solutions for complex drilling challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous experience working in Iraq or similar environments.
  • Strong knowledge of advanced drilling technologies and techniques.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to evolving project needs.
