The Senior Reservoir Engineer is a key technical Petro Technical Professional (PTP) with expertise in reservoir simulation, reservoir modeling, history matching and forecasting. A basic to intermediate understanding of Geology, Modeling, Geophysics, Geomechanics or Petrophysics is a strong plus. He/she integrates the knowledge from PVT, SCAL, production history with seismic, petrophysical evaluations and engineering analysis to develop a field-scale picture of the reservoir.
A Senior Reservoir Simulation Engineer:
- Is a fully qualified professional Reservoir Engineer, with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, but preferably Master and above
- Has over 15 years of experience in Reservoir Simulation and modeling
- Has a broad technical background across Reservoir Engineering and familiarity with Petrophysics, Geophysics, and modeling
- Possesses deep knowledge in subsurface analysis, PVT analysis, SCAL modeling, and historical production interpretation
Typical activities involve:
- Fundamental reservoir engineering analysis (Material Balance, DCA, Well Forecasting)
- PVT analysis for Black Oil and compositional simulation including EoS matching
- Relative permeability modeling, normalization, and endpoint scaling
- Capillary pressure modeling including hysteresis
- History matching using experimental design and AI concepts
- Basic EOR experience with strong simulation capabilities
Participates in reservoir studies with objectives such as prospect evaluation, dynamic simulation, and well placement planning. Collaborates with petrophysicists, geophysicists, and modelers, acting as a central integration point for Geophysical, Petrophysical, and Modeling data.
The Reservoir Simulation Engineer:
- Applies broad knowledge and experience to identify problems
- Balances priorities and interfaces with stakeholders within policy and technical limits
- Conducts independent analysis and conclusions, with complex issues escalated as needed
- Communicates decisions and rationale clearly
Education:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or higher in Petroleum/Chemical Engineering or Math
- Preferred: MSc in Petroleum Engineering with specialization in PVT analysis, SCAL modeling, History Matching, and EOR
Experience:
- BS: minimum 10 years
- MS: minimum 7 years
- PhD: minimum 5 years
Skills and Computer Literacy:
Problem Solving:
- Intermediate to advanced in project estimation
- Manages medium to high complexity projects
- Advanced analysis and solution design skills
- Expert in domain tools and practices
- Policy development and decision-making experience
Leadership:
- Supports optimal team performance
- Sets goals to meet objectives
Communication:
- Excellent presentation skills
- Fluent in English (written and spoken)
- Engages with peer groups and presents complex project information effectively
- Customer-focused
Software:
- Proficient with Petrel, ECLIPSE, and INTERSECT (FRONTSIM is a plus)
- Skilled in Petrel Reservoir Engineering including:
- Uncertainty Analysis and Optimization
- History Matching
- Petrel Upscaling
