About This Role
Seismic Inversion Specialist
Location: Remote
Start Date: Immediate
Contract Type: Consultancy
Job Overview
Visuna is currently seeking an experienced Seismic Inversion Specialist for an immediate remote consultancy opportunity.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience in geophysics, quantitative interpretation (QI) and reservoir characterisation, with a strong technical background in pre-stack seismic inversion and rock physics.
We are looking for a senior specialist who can independently execute complex seismic inversion studies and deliver high-quality technical results to support exploration, appraisal and field-development decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute end-to-end pre-stack simultaneous seismic inversion and quantitative interpretation projects.
- Perform AVO/AVA analysis and advanced rock physics studies.
- Generate and interpret inversion outputs, including Acoustic Impedance (AI), Shear Impedance (SI), Vp/Vs, density and elastic reservoir properties.
- Conduct seismic-to-well calibration, wavelet extraction and low-frequency model building.
- Perform seismic conditioning, quality control and inversion validation.
- Integrate seismic inversion results with well logs, geological interpretations, facies characterisation and static reservoir models.
- Conduct uncertainty assessments and blind-well validation.
- Provide technical expertise and recommendations to support reservoir characterisation and development decisions.
- Independently manage complex QI studies and ensure the technical quality of deliverables.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 15–20 years of experience in geophysics, quantitative interpretation and reservoir characterisation.
- Proven hands-on experience in pre-stack simultaneous seismic inversion and AVO/AVA analysis.
- Strong technical knowledge of rock physics, seismic-to-well calibration and fluid/lithology discrimination.
- Demonstrated experience delivering complete seismic inversion and QI projects.
- Proficiency in HampsonRussell and/or equivalent seismic inversion software, preferably with Petrel integration.
- Experience in seismic conditioning, wavelet extraction, low-frequency model building and inversion QC.
- Strong understanding of uncertainty assessment, blind-well validation and technical quality control.
- Proven ability to apply inversion results to real exploration, appraisal or field-development decisions.
- Ability to work independently as a senior technical consultant.
Desirable Experience
- Experience in 4D seismic modelling and Sim2Seis workflows.
- Previous involvement in complex reservoir characterisation projects.
- Experience integrating seismic inversion results into static reservoir models.
Additional Information
Candidates must have personally executed end-to-end pre-stack seismic inversion and quantitative interpretation projects.
Applicants whose experience is primarily focused on seismic interpretation, acquisition or processing without significant hands-on inversion experience will not be considered suitable for this position.
