Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Drilling Engineer / ERD Specialist with at least 10 years of industry experience in Extended Reach Drilling (ERD) well design and planning. The ideal candidate will possess specialized knowledge in ERD operations, torque & drag management, hydraulics modeling, casing wear analysis, and more. As part of a dynamic team, this role will be critical in optimizing drilling operations and ensuring high levels of operational efficiency and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- ERD Well Design & Planning: Lead the design, planning, and execution of ERD wells, ensuring wellbore integrity, safety, and optimal performance.
- Casing Wear Analysis: Conduct detailed casing wear analysis, ensuring the effectiveness of casing materials and drilling techniques to avoid premature failure.
- Hole Cleaning & Clean-Up: Utilize advanced hole cleaning and hole clean-up time calculators to manage the hole quality and reduce risks associated with drilling.
- Post-Buckling Effects: Analyze and predict the post-buckling effects on side forces, torque, drag, and bending stress; verify post-buckling predictions to establish their accuracy.
- Flotation Techniques: Utilize flotation techniques, including the ability to plot anticipated hookload sensitivity to fluid density for well optimization.
- Torque & Drag Management: Oversee the use of specialized torque & drag management devices, such as swivels, rollers, NRDPP’s, bearing subs, tractors, and centralizers.
- Hydraulic Modeling: Develop hydraulic models that account for rotational impact on ECDs, centralizer/stabilizer/accessory bypass areas, and the impact of temperature and pressure on mud properties.
- Surge & Swab Load Modeling: Model surge and swab loads under special conditions (with/without auto fill, crossover tools, managed pressure tripping).
- Cementing Operations: Model torque, drag, and hydraulics/ECD during cementing operations with and without set liner hangers.
- Downhole Mechanical Energy Analysis: Infer downhole mechanical specific energy by combining surface measurements with Torque & Drag projections.
- Rig Power Consumption Modeling: Model total rig power consumption for various operational scenarios to ensure efficient resource usage.
- Geomechanical Limits: Import and analyze rock mechanics data to interpolate geomechanical limits for various well trajectory options.
- ERD Project Experience: Lead or support a minimum of three wells with an ERD ratio exceeding 3, ensuring successful outcomes similar to previous projects.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in drilling engineering with a focus on ERD well design and planning.
- Specialized Skills: Expertise in casing wear analysis, torque & drag management, and hydraulic modeling.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with advanced drilling software, modeling tools, and other industry-specific technologies.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications in drilling or engineering (e.g., IWCF, IADC, etc.) are preferred.
- Project Experience: Demonstrated experience managing or supporting at least three ERD wells with an ERD ratio greater than 3.
- Leadership: Proven ability to supervise and mentor junior personnel, ensuring best practices and technical excellence.

- The contractor must have a proven track record with at least three projects with an ERD ratio exceeding 3.
- Must be willing to travel to different operational sites as required.
