A Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technician is responsible for using various techniques and equipment to assess the quality, integrity, and safety of materials and products.
The overall purpose of a non-destructive testing technician is to test materials and components used in buildings, structures and machinery. NDT Technicians perform inspections to ensure the compliance with codes and safety regulations within the energy industry.
The individual would usually hold a degree in non-destructive testing. Some essential skills include analytical thinking, the ability to work well with others, thorough knowledge of maths, attention to detail, the ability to think logically, and the ability to use a computer and the main software packages confidently.
Experienced NDT Technicians can advance their energy career by obtaining higher-level certifications, such as Level II or Level III certifications in various NDT methods. There is also the opportunity to move into roles such as NDT supervisors, quality control managers or a consultant in NDT services.
