The overall purpose of a wind turbine technician is to repair and maintain wind turbines. Regular duties would involve the installation of wind turbines and towers, fitting and testing turbine blades and control systems, plus carrying out routine checks and maintenance.

The individual would usually hold a qualification in renewable energy engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering or a similar subject. Essential skills include problem-solving, an appreciation of safety procedures, excellent attention to detail, an interest in science, maths, technology and computing, and the ability to use, maintain and repair machinery and equipment.
